Netherlands: Existing & Upcoming Data Center Portfolio

Key Market Highlights: 

• According to the Dutch Data Center Association (DDA), 20% of the country's Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) are associated with data centers and cloud computing. 5G connectivity will also pace up investments in the Netherlands. 
• As of January 2022, the population in the country was over 17 million, with an internet penetration rate of over 96%. Over 90% of them are active social media users.  
• In December 2020, the authorities of Amsterdam adopted a new policy for data centers called Amsterdam Duurzaam Digitaal, Vestigingsbeleid data centers gemeente Amsterdam 2020-2030. The policy aims to make the data center facilities more sustainable and maximize growth. 
• The total traffic volume reported in the Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) increased by over 18% as compared to 2020. In addition, the peak traffic reported in the exchange was around 10.8 Tbps. Also, it opened two Dutch POPs in Rotterdam and Naaldwijk which were the exchange’s first POPs outside Amsterdam.
